Good ideas so far but should add a caveat to the suggestion part of this post: I don’t have time to build and test everyone’s ideas myself so it’s up to you to develop the series yourself. You should have specific PI and cars in mind and they should have roughly similar performance across the board to ensure racing will be as close as possible. Ideally we should have a bunch of ready-to-go ideas to choose from and no work should need to be done beyond deciding which one we want to do.

*original post as follows*

We have two specific series in mind we’d like feedback on, but if you’ve got your own idea we’d like to hear it as well. Nothing is set in stone yet so it can all change depending on what you guys want to do.

After the Trans-Am and Two-Five cars I figured we should try out something a bit less challenging to drive. As such, one of the series we’re considering is a Continental Tire/Rolex Sports Car-inspired series. With both myself and robluvscars1 having built and tested cars (his built to high S-class and mine at A600) we have two options are far as PI goes, so if everyone who’s planning on participating could hop on our club garage and test out both groups of cars and see which ones they like best that’d be awesome. All his cars have number plates and graphics and are somewhere in the 660-690 PI range while mine are all A600. I’m personally leaning towards the A600 cars just because they’re so much easier to drive but this is a democracy so your input will determine what we do. As of right now there are 12 A600 cars and 7 S-class cars so keep that in mind as well.

The second series on the alternating weeks is a bit more open. RoboRed has a classic sports car series he’s working on with all kinds of stuff like Healeys and BMW 507’s and the like and Corey has a 50’s/60’s Le Mans prototype idea in gestation as well. If these ideas sound good to you please let us know so we can develop them further, and if you have your own idea we can put it to vote; ideally the cars have some relation to each other (were in a past racing series, from the same country of origin, whatever) and have roughly similar performance so that the racing and BoP adjustments will be as close as possible.

And to answer anyone’s question, yes, I’m working on the Trans-Am and Two-Five post-season and it’ll be up sometime this week. I’m just going through all the saved replays I have trying to make sure I scored everyone correctly and that I didn’t miss anything.

I’m partial to my idea of classic GT cars, but I had another idea.

Kinja'd!!!

What if we do a spec series with the Seat Leon Supercopa? It is a part of the base game, so everyone has access to it. It is a lightweight FWD car with good downforce, so it is easy to drive. There are enough upgrades for it that we could retain the idea of matching lap times. Also, if we do this it would be like a touring car series, even going as far as accepting light contact possibly. Of course, we would sacrifice diversity in the field of cars.

I also like the idea of having a series based around our daily drivers. That could be a lot less serious and just more fun.

I like the 50s roadsters idea but open to all of the early roadsters. That or a vintage stock car series would be fun I built two different eras of cars (early and late) and got all the cars running close lap times

80's and 90's street: No supercars but anything the average Joe could afford from that time period. Set it up like our B450 series. Similar rules all race parts and the engine last for mods.

Or something that means I can drive the E30 M3.

I tried out a 90’s DTM series with the Alfa, Cosworth Merc, and E30 but the cars were too far apart lap-time wise imo. As far as the 80s/90s series goes I like that idea but it’d be difficult to match the cars lap-time and performance-wise given the diversity of the cars of that era. If you make a list of cars and test them out yourself that’d make things a lot easier.

We did a pseudo-DTM in Group J, but the cars were spec and at B490. I’d love to do a classic DTM, but I think the cars would be better in the A class range.

I wouldn’t be opposed to that “Daily Driver” series that Desu brought up. That sounds like it would be fun for everyone.

Other ideas I had were classic DTM (A550), new DTM (R2), classic “indycar” (Ferrari 312s, R2), new “indycar” (Chevy Orecas, R1), and possibly a Forza Horizon dirt/mixed terrain series.

A600 which was fine for the Merc and BMW but the Alfa was like 2-3 seconds slower per lap because of the AWD swap. I was going to try and see just what PI would work with all three cars but I’m not sure if it’s worth it.

Alfa was on par with the Merc at B490, but I dunno how it could/would scale. Also, that was with RWD for everyone (which I believe all DTM cars were anyways).

I have some A530 cars I threw together a week ago (242, 190E, M3, Carlton Omega, Mustang, 155, RS2 80, and Sierra), but I haven’t test-driven them.

Yes.

The beauty of the Continental Tires Sportscar Racing Series is the cars used are production based. IMO, it is as close (in spirit) to the original Trans Am series as you can get with modern sports/pony cars. The GS is the big bore class, and the ST is the small bore class. All on the track at the same time. Could do back to back weekends like we just did, or multi-class at once in a race. Your thoughts?

As you know, todays Trans Am series cars are tube framed, non-production, race based cars.

The Continental GS cars are @S620-S670 (The cars have been built to have similar PI (with .3 pts for Speed, Accel, and Launch) which yielded laps times within 1-2 seconds when I tested them.) Keep in mind that if this series is chosen, as administaror, I will set out specific build specifications for each car, then you tune it, and make the adjustments for driving style. Also BOP will be allowed. Keep in mind that the series uses production based cars, so staying true to the real world appearance is also important. Only factory style bodys will be used; therefore no assist from Forza aero (yes, IMO aero is an assist just like ABS, or auto trans).

The ST cars have not been discussed in detail, but I threw a few up in the garage when I was testing the cars out. They are not completely sorted out; for that matter neither are the GS cars. However, when trying the cars out, keep in mind that I use the “braking line assist” as my reference for when to brake on the track. The builds in the garage have no ABS, so when testing I adjusted the brakes based on squeezing the trigger and holding it down while following the braking line...

Indeed the modern Trans-Am cars are closer to Daytona Prototypes than street cars.

Anyway, I’d go for back to back weeks, but that depends on the number of entries. Having a varying PI and going off of lap times using a BOP is probably the best route. But I know I’ll be at back of the pack regardless; automatic and no idea what I’m doing when tuning. Stock aero is fine by me. The CTSC rulebook states that anyway. Would the legal cars be the types currently running in the series? Would any others be added?

Kinja'd!!! EricisDaywalker > Viggen
06/15/2015 at 00:21

Kinja'd!!!1

Yes, and others are likely up for consideration. I’ve included several cars already: The Aston Martin (the model I used) and the the Dodge Challeger do not race in this series (I think a team entered a Challenger in a few races a year or two ago. But didnt do well; however, they have been doing well in the current Trans Am series). I considered using the Caddy CTS-V Coupe and the Jaguar F also, but havent had a chance to test them. You will note that I have a ZL1 Camaro and the SS both included. The ZL1 build used is Naturally Aspirated (it is factory Super Charged), and it is very similar in body to the current Z28, so I decided to use it. The Camaro SS is an older version of the 1LE package used. I also used the older 2005 body for the Mustang GT as well as the current Boss 302R.

Also, keep in mind that these cars are mainly “S” class due to light as possible race weight, with race slicks for traction. They are all in the 430 to 530 hp range. (I also have builds with reduced power as some can be built with less. But the problem is there are others that are very close in PI with almost stock engines.) Too much reduction in power on the bigger V8s would change the PI for the Speed, Launch and Accel, specs too far out of competitive balance. I could probably add weight back to those cars that are super quick with minimal mods to engine, if I reduced the HP on the bigger V8s for parity. I will explore that more if there is enough interest in the series...

So I’ve done a bunch of tuning with the DTM cars since I first uploaded them.

- added two new ones because I did research and found that they were also in DTM (had no clue either)
- all cars are within a second of each other on Mugello except for two. One because it’s still too slow (but I think I *almost* have it within an acceptable time. I’m just tired of driving the hell out of it right now as of this post), and the other is zomgplznerfnow unexpectedly faster than the rest
- all the current tunes are synced with the club garage

Current roster:
- Alfa-Romeo 155 Q4
- Audi RS2 Avant (Audi 80)
- BMW E30 M3
- BMW M635csi
- Ford Sierra RS500
- Ford SVT Cobra R (Ford Mustang)
- Lotus Carlton (Opel Omega)
- Mercedes-Benz 190E

Soon, like this coming week probably. Problem is everyone’s suggesting all kinds of things but no one’s actually fleshed out a feasible series, so it looks like it’ll be between the old sports cars and 90’s DTM unless someone wants to actually put in time and develop another idea.

Well, there’s also the Continental Tire series and the Daily Driver series (the former has cars in the garage, the latter doesn’t need a set by definition).

I’m gonna do some writeups for the two I’ve put forth. I’m also gonna do one for the faux Classic Indycar series as a non-BoP series (I just realized yesterday that I don’t need to do much tuning for it since it’s a spec series, and it’s just one car. Sadly, the garage is full. Again.)

Here is the full list of ones I thought of:

Classic GT: Cars like the 250 GTO, C2 Corvette, Miura, etc. Start PI of S620 before adjustments. The only major potential issue is that some of the cars need turbos to get to that PI. Also, some of the rear aero for the cars are a full size spoiler and not the lip one.

Seat Leon Supercup Spec: Seat Leon Supercup only. Start PI of ~A580 before adjustments. This would be basically a touring car series since this was a touring car. No car diversity though.

Underground: Only cars from Need for Speed Underground 1 and 2, many of which are in the game. Start PI of S650? I’ve done absolutely no testing for this one, but I thought it could be interesting if people want to do it.

GT/LMP Multi-class: I’m just throwing this one out there since Le Mans was a lot of fun. Wouldn’t be able to match lap times, though.

Let me know what you think.
